Motorist dies as hail and heavy rain hit country
Ras Al Khaimah: Hail accompanied by heavy rain hit Ras Al Khaimah on Saturday night, signalling a change of weather as meteorologists predicted more showers nationwide.
One man was killed when he lost control of his vehicle in the hail. A senior officer at the Traffic and Licensing Department said the victim's vehicle skidded and rolled over several times in Wadi Galeelah.
Al Jeer, Khor Khowair and Galeelah in Ras Al Khaimah also received heavy rain. Light rain fell on a number of areas along the East Coast, including Fujairah city and Dibba.
Overcast skies and light winds signalled a change of weather yesterday, but it only drizzled for a few minutes.
People in Umm Al Quwain experienced light showers late Friday. A drizzle fell in Al Ain on Saturday night. A senior meteorologist at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) in Abu Dhabi said unstable weather is expected to hit the UAE over the next 48 hours.
However, weathermen said this season rains would likely be less than last season's as December was mostly a dry month. Chances were that this month would also be mostly dry, they added.
