Dubai: An Asian driver was burnt to death inside his car in a tragic accident Monday afternoon after a water tanker reportedly rammed into his vehicle on Shaikh Zayed Road.

The accident led to lengthy traffic jams near the Mall of the Emirates on Shaikh Zayed Road going towards Abu Dhabi.

Shortly before that the Asian driver got involved in a separate accident with another light vehicle and both cars were at still in motion when the tanker’s driver reportedly rammed into the rear car, causing it to burst into flames, according to Chief Traffic Prosecutor Salah Bu Farousha, head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution.

“The accident happened after the third intersection on the third lane from the right of Shaikh Zayed Road in the Dubai-Abu Dhabi direction at 3.45pm and the tanker driver is wanted for questioning," Bu Farousha told Gulf News.

"According to witnesses, the two light vehicles were stopped when the tanker’s driver hit the rear car. The victim died on the spot as he burnt to death.

"Onsite investigations revealed that the tanker’s driver is responsible for the tragic accident. Eventually he will be brought in for questioning due to his liability.”

Citing as example of a similar accident which happened earlier this year, Bu Farousha warned drivers of heavy and light vehicles to be extra attentive and responsible while driving their vehicle and to always stick to and respect traffic laws to spare lives and avoid destroying properties.

Following the accident police and rescue teams rushed to the scene.
