Abu Dhabi: The Hazza Bin Zayed Al Najda Street intersection, in the direction of Al Salam Street, in Abu Dhabi, will be closed on Saturday September 11, to facilitate construction of the first freeway on the island.

Motorists coming from Hazza Bin Zayed Street or Al Najda Street, wishing to access Al Salam Street, will have to take alternative routes such as Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street or Muroor Street.

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ - Traffic and Patrols Directorate, is encouraging people driving in the area to adhere to speed limits and obey the traffic laws. Pedestrians are urged to use crossing areas and bridges.

Al Salam Street Project will see the existing road upgraded to an urban expressway with a network of roads and tunnels that will lead to a smooth free-flow facility of an estimated capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour in each direction. Once the project is completed, motorists will be able to travel through Al Salam Street without any traffic signals from Shaikh Zayed Bridge to Mina Zayed.

The tunnels’ central system is among the most advanced in the world and comes with enhanced safety features. The scheme is expected to have a positive impact on the environment by reducing traffic, which will lead to a decrease in air pollution.
