Dubai Plans are under way to extend Dubai Metro's Green Line to Academic City, International City and the Lagoons developments within five years, a senior official told Gulf News Tuesday.

The announcement came as the Dubai Metro officially entered the Guinness World Records as the longest driverless Metro network in the world stretching 74.695 kilometres.

The length is the combined stretch of the Metro's Red and Green lines.

"Connecting to Academic City alone will benefit the over 30,000 strong student community," Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of the Rail Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said. "The plan already has the approval of RTA's board as well as the government's support."
