Dubai: Four people were killed and another was seriously injured in a crash on Emirates Road in Dubai on Friday night, a senior traffic official said.

"Three of the victims died at the crash site, while another succumbed to injuries at Rashid Hospital. The fifth person in the car continues to be in critical condition," said Salah Bu Farousha, Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution, adding that all of them are believed to be Syrian nationals.

Bu Farousha said the crash, which took place at 9.45pm, was the result of reckless driving and speeding. "The driver lost control of the vehicle, which turned over."

Another car overturned on Dubai-Al Ain Road on Friday night but the Emirati driver walked away with moderate injuries, the chief prosecutor said.

One more death was reported as two other accidents took place in the Al Qusais Industrial Area.

An Indian jaywalker was killed on Saturday morning after he was run over by a vehicle driven by another Indian. The chief traffic prosecutor said the accident was caused due to the driver's carelessness.

Another jaywalker escaped with critical injuries when a similar accident took place in the same area on Friday night. The Indian was admitted to Rashid Hospital.

All four accidents took place in a span of ten hours.
