Dubai: The Dubai Tram will start rolling for passenger service from Wednesday, following its inauguration on November 11.

The sleek-looking trams will operate for 19 hours a day, Saturday to Thursday, starting at 6.30am and running up to 1:30am.

On Fridays, the tram service will start from 9am and will continue till 1:30am, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Sunday.

With 11 stops dotting across the 10.6-km network, the trams will run every 10 minutes during peak hours and every 12 minutes during off-peak hours.

Each tram can accommodate up to 405 passengers in seven carriages with a Gold cabin, two cabins for women and children and four Silver cabins.

Mass transit

Dubai Tram is a latest addition to the RTA’s mass transit systems, including Dubai Metro and buses and will be linked to the Unified Automated Fare Collection system, Nol.

A tram ride on Silver class will cost Dh3, irrespective of the distance travelled, while the fare will double on the Gold class.
