Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a road safety campaign, which will crack down on heavy vehicles.
Working with Dubai Police, the campaign aims to reduce traffic accidents involving heavy trucks, deter reckless driving and increase respect for the rights of road users.
Ahmad Behroozian, CEO, RTA Licensing Agency, said: "This campaign, which comes under RTA vision of providing 'safe and smooth transport for all', aims to minimise infractions and offences associated with irresponsible and reckless drivers who are in most cases the cause of fatal accidents resulting in extensive damage to humans and properties.
Risks involved
"The campaign directly targets drivers and seeks to educate and enhance their safety awareness, and familiarise them with the potential risks of driving technically unsound trucks. The campaign highlights the need to ensure that the technical condition of the heavy vehicle is in line with the applicable rules and regulations in the emirate of Dubai. Drivers will also be urged to comply with traffic regulations, as well as security and safety standards for their own safety and other road users' safety," he said.
He continued that the campaign will include inspections for vehicle road-worthiness, driving license validity, tyres and brakes.
