Dubai: Undercover traffic inspectors will be stalking Dubai's roads waiting to fine owners and confiscate vehicles that have not been registered for at least three months.
Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said that these undercover units will confiscate all vehicles that have expired registration, in coordination with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Renewing registration is essential to ensure motorists are following safety regulations in the maintenance of their cars. The process also ensures that motorists have obtained insurance and have paid their fines.
The Traffic Department will also impound vehicles that take part in illegal car racing. Traffic units have been instructed to confiscate all vehicles involved in car racing, said Major General Al Zafein, responding to allegations that car racing is only illegal if it's attempted by a group of people.
Major General Al Zafein highlighted another concern saying that many motorists remove or misplace their front numberplate.
"Certain motorists justify the absence of the front plate number saying their imported cars don't have a place for plate number in the front. The law of the country is clear: plate numbers should be present in the rear and front of the vehicle," he said.
Major General Al Zafein warned motorists not to take advantage of traffic regulations. He said even if motorists alter or remove their front plate, radars will film the rear plate as well.
