Drivers see red over Abu Dhabi speed limits
Highly visible coloured paving will warn motorists they are entering an area with new restrictions.

The Municipality has started demarcating sections of roads with red paving, a statement issued by Abu Dhabi Police said on Saturday.
The police started enforcing new speed limits on several roads under regulations announced last week, in cooperation with the three municipalities in the emirate.
The speed limit in residential areas is between 20 and 40 km/h. The radars have been updated accordingly.
"The drivers can easily identify the red pavement and they must reduce speed before reaching there," said Colonel Engineer Hussain Ahmad Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police.
He said the speed limit outside Abu Dhabi city — on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai and Abu Dhabi-Al Ain highways — remains unchanged.

Colonel Al Harithi said the new regulations will enhance the safety and security of motorists.
The official earlier said the police patrol cars would monitor the speed limits in residential areas and the radars would do so on the highways, as Gulf News reported last week.
Colonel Al Harithi had said the changes were being made after extensive studies of the traffic requirements of the emirate in the next decade.
He said the new regulations emphasise traffic safety.
A new campaign will be conducted for drivers, he said.
More details of the new rules will be announced in a few days, he said.
A spokesman for Abu Dhabi police had told Gulf News that the speed limit on the highways would be 140km/h with an allowance of 20km/h.
