Ras Al Khaimah: More than 100 road accidents were reported here during the two-hour rain fall Thursday evening, while officers rescued dozens of vehicles stuck in the flooded Wadi Al Seeh and Wadi Al Beeh areas, according to the police.

Following the heavy rainfall, hundreds of people, including families, came to see the water-filled wadis and created traffic jams, resulting in extra work for the police who also had to dispatch their vehicles to ease traffic.

Difficult to drive

The officer added that the Police Operation Room received several reports from individuals and families stuck in the middle of the wadis calling for help.

The officer said that in Wadi Al Seeh, water rose up to 1.5 metres, making it difficult for vehicles, even ones with the four wheel drive, to move around.

He said that some of the main roads in these areas were shut down and vehicles were not allowed to enter them.

The police patrols instructed curious visitors to clear out, but people continued to remain on the scene.

In other areas of Ras Al Khaimah, residents complained they had not seen a single road maintenance vehicle, typically used to absorb additional water on roads and ease traffic flow in main streets and key residential areas.

The residents said they had demanded municipal help but that there had been no response.

A total of 108 traffic accidents were reported in Ras Al Khaimah in the two hours of the rain fall, where three people sustained moderate to serious injuries.

The emirate's authorities have received strict instructions to be on high alert to handle accidents.
