Initiative will continue to reward safe drivers
Dubai: The annual Caltex Roadstar contest, initiated over a decade ago to promote safe driving habits among road users, will return next week to reward safe drivers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
Designed 11 years ago by the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF), the campaign moved for the first time to Abu Dhabi last year with a promise to spread "drive safe" awareness to more emirates.
Keeping in line with the expansion plans, the initiative this December includes rewarding safe drivers in Sharjah as well.
Organisers and sponsors of the campaign, held under the auspices of the EMSF, held a meeting with Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, deputy director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, to finalise formalities for the campaign to be held from Sunday to Thursday.
Safe drivers will be identified in Dubai on Sunday and Monday, Abu Dhabi on Tuesday and Wednesday and Sharjah on Thursday.
Praising cooperation
EMSF Director Ahmad Al Shareef was all praise for the unreserved cooperation the EMSF has received from the police and associated departments of the three emirates.
Al Shareef noted that the Federation has been organising the campaign since its inception "because the EMSF is not just about racing, but also takes its responsibility to promote safe driving seriously."
Apart from Caltex, the other sponsors were: AXA Insurance, Lexus (Al Futtaim), and print media partner Gulf News and radio media partner Radio 2.
