Traffic fatalities in Bur Dubai dropped by 4.14 per cent in 2011 with 47 cases compared to 49 deaths in 2010

Dubai: Traffic fatalities in Bur Dubai dropped by 4.14 per cent in 2011 with 47 cases compared to 49 deaths in 2010.
Pedestrian run over accidents also witnessed a fall of 18 per cent from 96 in 2010 to 79 last year, Colonel Ali Ghanem, Director of Bur Dubai Police Station, said.
He attributed the positive results to awareness campaigns and extensive presence of police patrols in Bur Dubai, which also reduced traffic accidents by 13 per cent.
Only 604 collision accidents were reported in 2011 compared to 695 in 2010, while vehicle overturning dropped by 35 per cent from 55 in 2010 to 36 in 2011.
There were 47 serious injuries in 2011in Bur Dubai compared to 56 in 2010, and serious accidents fell by 4 per cent, Col Ghanem said.
The Bur Dubai Police station implemented four traffic awareness campaigns that targeted employees of companies in Quoz Industrial Area, as well as awareness lectures in public and private schools, he said, adding that many analytical studies were conducted to identify the causes of traffic accidents and find solutions to avoid them.
