Beach road project 'nearing completion'

Dubai: The Dh620 million Jumeirah Beautification project has 20 per cent of construction left to go, as the 30-year-old roads are proving to be more complex in reconstructing than anticipated, according to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.
"Given the limited space available for the roadworks, we could not deploy heavy machinery but were forced to manually excavate the site, which is a time-consuming process," said Maitha Bin Adi, Director of the Roads department at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The multi-million project of widening the two-lane beach road to three lanes has been extended from last month's deadline, as the department faces the obstacle of reconstruction without the original road maps.
Assured
To carry out the plans, the RTA was forced to replace the network of cables in the underground service corridor to protect them from the weight of the traffic above and to facilitate future maintenance, according to Bin Adi.
A new service corridor has also been laid out, comprising various cables and pipelines.
The RTA also expressed its apologies to residents for the annoyance the project has caused and assured them that the beautification project is approaching completion.
