Dubai: The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has enhanced the scope of its major safety campaign "Haseb", which means take care, by uploading it on its web portal.
"The interactive website contains information aiming to educate public in general and the motorists in particular on the importance of complying with roads and traffic regulations," said Paymen Younes Parham, director of the RTA's Marketing and Corporate Communication Department.
He said the Haseb campaign which was launched a couple of months ago teaches the principles of safe driving with the intention to minimise road accidents, maintain public properties, as well as save lives of motorists, passengers and other road users.
Parham added than seven key reasons which caused the majority of the fatal accidents have been highlighted in the campaign. "The campaign educates people about dangers of speeding, driving while drowsy or tired or under the influence of alcohol, without using a safety belt, jumping red signals, using mobile phones, not maintaining safe distance between vehicles and sudden lane change."
He said that some 2,289 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents in Dubai during the last 10 years. "Safety campaign aims to reduce fatalities at least by 40 per cent by 2015," he added.
The number of people killed in road accidents has already reduced to 294 last year compared to 332 in 2007 due to increased traffic fines and improved policing and the roads network.
