Dubai The Al Sufouh Tram will open to the public in November 2014, Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of RTA's Rail Agency, said Tuesday.
"Al Sufouh Tram is a very dynamic project that will link Sufouh and JBR area, which now suffers from heavy traffic jams," he said.
The project is vital as the area is densely populated and frequented by tourists. "It will link with the Red Line and two stations, providing a wide range of options for commuters," Al Hammadi said.
Asked about the delay in the project over the years, Al Hammadi replied: "Proof of the fact that the work was never stalled is the fact that you can see the completed tram bridge near JBR. Now the project is back on in full swing."
Al Hammadi called on young Emiratis to take an active interest in developments taking place in the rail sector. "Hiring Emiratis is a priority for RTA," he said.
"The work is tough but is highly interesting and it will give you a strong career path, as the Metro will in future link different emirates and even link UAE to other GCC countries."
