Abu Dhabi: The Municipality said two left lanes on Al Salam Street, in both the inbound and outbound directions of the Sea Palace underpass, will be closed temporarily, starting Friday .

The other two lanes on the right side of the underpass will however, stay open.

The closure is being undertaken to facilitate construction on the Al Salam Street, which will be the first freeway on Abu Dhabi island when construction ends.

The Municipality has advised motorists to stick to speed limits, obey traffic laws and take alternative routes whenever possible. It also asked pedestrians to use proper crossing areas and bridges for their own safety.

The Al Salam Street project, when finished, will upgrade the existing road to an urban expressway with a network of roads and tunnels that can accommodate about 12,000 vehicles per hour.

Motorists will be able to travel through Al Salam Street without any traffic signals from Shaikh Zayed Bridge until the Mina Zayed.
