Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi residents can avoid long wait for taxis thanks to the increased number of ‘taxi inspectors' on the streets. More inspectors have been appointed to monitor both the old gold-white taxis and the new silver taxis in the emirate. The inspectors working on morning and evening shifts at key points in the emirate will acts as observers of the taxi sector in the Emirate, said a statement issued by TransAD, the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars in Abu Dhabi.
The inspectors will ensure that all taxis operate in such a way as to reduce the waiting time for taxis during peak hours.
Khalid Al Rashidi, General Manager of TransAD, said the Centre has identified seven key areas for inspection in the city of Abu Dhabi and its suburbs, and five major areas in Al Ain.
The inspectors will have three types of duties. They will do ‘On Time Inspection' in cooperation with franchisees to ensure that new taxis are matching with TransAD standard. ‘Routine Inspection' will be done regularly in inspector's designated areas. If there is any complaint, they will do ‘Unannounced Inspection'.
The Centre has designed uniforms for all Taxi's inspectors. They have also got special designed vehicles with TransAD's logo and toll free number. The vehicles will be tracked by the centre.
Al Rashedi also announced that the Centre has prompted the seven franchisees to appoint additional inspectors to assist the TransAD inspectors . The inspectors have to prepare weekly reports on the movement of taxi drivers and the compliance of all security and safety laws and TransAD regulations. They will have close coordination with the Traffic Department to perform this task.
Al Rashedi, requested the public to cooperate with the Centre by observing the taxi services and taxi inspectors and call 600535353 for any comments, suggestions or complaints.
