Abu Dhabi: Sections of Salam Street will be closed starting on Saturday as part of the Phase 1 of Salam Street Projects.
Phase 1 involves closing Salam Street from the Corniche Hospital intersection no. 56 up to intersection no. 9 leading to Abu Dhabi Mall.
Mina Street from intersection no. 12 in Salam Street towards Bayed Port until intersection 41 near Al Capital Hotel will also be blocked to traffic.
The project will pave way for a state-of-the-art road networks - complete with tunnels and junctions.
Road closures will occur in phases as the project progresses, Municipal officials said.
"The Abu Dhabi Municipality has taken every measure to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and reduce inconveniences to the public despite the closure of some key intersections," the Municipality said in a statement.
Salam Street Projects have been in response to the urban growth and population increase in the capital as well as an effort to further establish Abu Dhabi's position as a truly modern metropolis on par with the best in the world, it added.
On completion of Salam Street Projects, motorists will be able to travel through Salam Street without any traffic signals from Shaikh Zayed Bridge until the Mina Zayed area.
In effect, this will result to a much smoother traffic flow and faster travel time for thousands of motorists plying this arterial route, the Municipality said.
