Dubai: Law-abiding motorists received a treat on Wednesday in Dubai as they were rewarded for their good driving skills and behaviour on the roads.

"I think that if you are able to drive well in Dubai then you can drive anywhere else. The rules and the infrastructure of the roads are well-designed, and it is not a big challenge to drive good here," said Rolan Maradini, a grandmother of five, from Syria.

Having driven here for 30 years, Rolan said that the most important factor to remember while driving is to stay within the speed limit and not get encouraged by other reckless drivers.

"As long as I have been driving, I have never gotten into an accident. But you always have to remember to take care of yourself first, and then to take care of those around you on the road," she said.

Seven motorists in Dubai were rewarded with a Dh750 cash prize and a certificate for following basic safety regulations such as wearing a seat belt, using indicators and stopping at traffic signals.

The week-long Caltex RoadStar campaign, which ends today in Dubai was organised by Ciel Marketing and Events in association with Emirates Motor Sports Federation and the traffic police.

It is sponsored by Caltex, AXA Insurance and AGMC-BMW.
