Abu Dhabi: The British Embassy in Abu Dhabi has clarified new rules governing air transit through the United Kingdom for those travelling from the Gulf region and the UAE.

The transit rules for the United Kingdom changed on December 1.

Under the new rules, said an embassy official, if you are transiting landside — for example, arriving at one airport and leaving from another or passing through border control to collect luggage for connecting flights — you will need a valid exemption document (full list on the UKinUAE website), a confirmed booking on a flight which will depart before midnight on the day following your arrival in the UK, and correct documents for your next onward destination.

“If you do not fulfil those conditions, you must have either a valid UK visa or an Electronic Visa Waiver [EVW]. EVWs are only available to Emirati, Omani and Qatari nationals; they are single entry, so one would be needed for each landside transit,” said the official.
