Dubai: Work to convert the 14 kilometre stretch of beach from Jumeirah Mosque to Burj Al Arab into Dubai’s longest corniche is expected to be completed in November.

Work on the Jumeriah Corniche project began late last year. Once ready, the corniche, which currently houses several open beaches will become the social and sports hub of the city.

“Jumeirah beach area is being developed into a world class facility that will include jogging tracks, cycling tracks as well as water sports services. Work on the project is on schedule and will complete by November 2014,” said Maitha Obaid Bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

Currently, some of the open beaches in the area are without basic facilities of toilets, showers and change rooms, which RTA says will be rectified through the project.

“The corniche will have all the basic facilities that a recreational and public area could have including toilets, showers, change rooms, refreshment stalls, rest areas as well as retail kiosks,” added Maitha.

Being built at cost of Dh100 million, the project overlooking Jumairah’s prime residential pockets, will complement the Dubai Canal, which will connect the Dubai Creek to the Arabian Sea at Jumeriah Corniche.

Covering the seafront of six residential districts between Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Burj Al Arab Hotel, the corniche will serve as a lifestyle and leisure conundrum.

Apart from serving as another recreational and entertainment hub in the emirate, Jumeirah Corniche will present itself as a centre point for public health activities and a social hot spot.

Launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minster of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as a hub of healthy lifestyle, the project will facilitate a variety of sports, including jogging, walking, swimming, rowing and other activities that suit families and contribute to enhancing physical fitness.

Jumeirah Corniche will have a five-meter-wide walkway, four meter-wide jogging track as well as an extension of the cycling track that is currently located in Jumeirah.

The project also will have a distinctive landscaping theme featuring well designed and positioned flora, and decorative lighting characterised by stylish and creative design.
