Dubai: Dubai’s population has shot up 4.8 per cent to 2,174,000 people this month as compared to 2,068,000 people recorded as living in the emirate in August 2012, says Dubai Statistics Centre.
The findings were based on taking into account the daily and monthly estimation of Dubai permanent residents whether Emirati or expatriate.
Dubai first crossed the two million people mark in December 2011 when its population rose by five per cent in comparison to 2010 to reach 2,000,072, an increase of 22,072 in less than three months.
The emirate has a high expatriate population because of work and business opportunities.
A break out of the second quarter figures relating to population were still not available at press time but according to 01 2013 figures obtained by Gulf News yesterday from the Dubai Statistics Centre, males outnumber females three to one in the emirate.
According of the first quarter’s figures, out of Dubai’s 2,132,000 populations, 1,621,000 are male while 511,000 are female.
The statistics also showed that there are more married people than divorced with 1,193,000 marriage contracts as opposed to 336,000 divorce certificates.
When it comes to housing and construction, Gulf News obtained second quarter figures that showed that there were 1,064,000 completed buildings valued at Dh4,9 billion as compared to 736,000 completed buildings recorded which were valued at Dh3,7 billion.
Air transport figures showed that there were 92,781 air flights at Dubai International Airport with passenger movement at the airport reaching up to 16,174,000 in the second quarter.
