Fujairah: Three Asian cleaners were killed and 16 others sustained severe to moderate injuries in a tragic accident on the Fujairah -Khor Fakkan road on Saturday morning, an official at Fujairah Police told Gulf News.
The Asian driver of a minibus lost control over his vehicle. It veered and crashed into the pavement causing the death of three cleaners on the spot and injuring 16 others.
The Fujairah police operation room received a call at 7.02am informing them about the accident involving a minibus carrying cleaners to drop their work site. Police patrols and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene of the incident.
The dead bodies were transferred to Fujairah Hospital’s morgue while the injured were transferred to hospitals in Fujairah and Kalba.
The initial report showed that the minibus was overloaded as its capacity was 14 passengers , but it was carrying 19 passengers at the time of the incident. The driver was speeding and it appears that he seemed to have dozed off while driving .
Fujairah Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Fujairah Police have urged motorists not to overload vehicles and to ensure they have adequate sleep for their safety and that of others.
