Dubai: Salik top-up is now as easy as recharging prepaid mobile connections as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launches new e-vouchers.
According to RTA, the new vouchers are available at more than 3,000 stores across the country.
The new service is being provided in partnership with Axiom Telecom and the e-vouchers are similar to those available in supermarkets and groceries for etisalat and du mobile top-up.
“This step underscores RTA’s keenness to offer distinguished customer service at the highest quality standards, and at the same time sort out logistical issues and conserve the environment through eliminating the procedures of transporting and delivering cards to suppliers,” said Maitha Bin Udai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.
The voucher will work as a new payment method along with the existing payment options.
However, RTA didn’t confirm whether or not the existing recharge cards will be replaced by the new vouchers.
She added customers can continue to use a variety of e-channels for topping up their balance with the RTA.
Salik users can recharge their accounts by dialing 800 72545, visiting www.salik.ae using their credit cards, accessing ePay or mPay services, or visiting the service-providing banks or kiosks spread all over the UAE.
“To deliver effective services to customers, the RTA, in cooperation with Axiom Telecom, has provided the new recharging e-vouchers in more than 3,000 stores to make them accessible nation-wide, and the service will be available in all retail outlets across the UAE before the end of this year,” Maitha said.
The new e-vouchers are available in three denominations: Dh50, Dh100 and Dh200.
People will also be able to top up a friend’s Salik account through this new e-voucher by following the guidelines provided over the phone or their text message.
Salik or Dubai’s road toll system, was first launched in 2007, with a toll gate each on Al Garhoud Bridge and on Shaikh Zayed Road near Mall of the Emirates.
Since then four more gates have come up at Al Safa and Al Maktoum Bridge as well as Al Mamzar and Airport Tunnel, which were installed early last year.
According to RTA, Salik ensures smooth flow of traffic on the highways as it operates without toll booths or barriers.
Salik tags can be purchased for Dh100 from any RTA customer service centre as well as petrol stations.
The tag is installed on a vehicle’s windscreen and Dh4 is deducted every time the vehicle passes through the toll gate.
