Dubai: Residents and workers in Dubai Investments Park (DIP) can now use an additional entry point to the sprawling industrial and residential zone from Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, avoiding traffic at the huge roundabout that is permanently busy.

The new entrance, which opened earlier this week, eases the movement of light vehicles to DIP’s industrial, commercial and residential areas from Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road leading from Abu Dhabi.

Located between Lahbab/Mohammad Bin Zayed Road roundabout and the big Green Community Roundabout on Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, the entrance along with a recently opened exit, provide easy access to the area for people coming from Abu Dhabi side.

Built at a cost of Dh15 million, the entry point offers a relief — particularly for Green Community residents.

“This entry comes as a huge relief as we won’t have to go all the way to the big Green Community roundabout to enter DIP. The gigantic roundabout is usually busy and there is lot of rush entering DIP from that side as it was the only entrance coming from the direction of Abu Dhabi,” said Grace Stone, a long-time Green Community resident.

She added that the adjacent exit that was opened earlier has also helped save time and avoid bottlenecks on the other exits from the area.

DIP, along with neighbouring communities, has a population of around 150,000, most of whom commute daily in their own vehicles.

“I work in DIP and accessing the area from Mohammad Bin Zayed Road has been an issue, the opening of this entrance and exit has really helped and it will further improve traffic following the completion of road expansion work going on around the area,” said Mohammad Suhail, a mechanical engineer.

The opening of the new entrance comes close on the heels of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announcing the expansion of the Lahbab (Al Yalayis) Road project leading to the DIP’s main entrance. The project, expected to be completed within 18 months, includes the construction of a dual four-lane road linking Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road.

“The new entrance to Dubai Investments Park from Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road is a major step in alleviating inbound traffic and easing tailbacks for vehicles entering DIP from Abu Dhabi. DIP is today 90 per cent fully operational, and increased movement within our commercial and residential space necessitated this move,” said Saeed Bugaraah, Chief Operating Officer of DIP.

“Our strategic location close to the Al Maktoum International Airport, Jebel Ali Port and the arterial highways also leads to heavy truck and cargo traffic to and from DIP. We are constantly working closely with the RTA to develop and upgrade the infrastructure from time to time to meet the demands of our tenants,” he added.
