Dubai: Traffic on the Trade Centre roundabout will ease considerably as 4.2km long flyovers opened for traffic on Tuesday, linking First Al Khail street with Shaikh Rashid road heading to Sharjah and Oud Metha road heading to Al Ain.
The Dh719.37 million project also provides direct access to Al Maktoum bridge and Al Karama area.
Heading from Shaikh Rashid Road as well as from Oud Metha Road, the bridges allow access to First Al Khail street, bypassing traffic on the Trade Centre Roundabout.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has also built a footbridge near the World Trade Centre, stretching 92 meters and fitted with two electrical lifts in each side as part of the project.
“The Trade Centre Bridges Project is one of the largest and most important phases of the Parallel Roads Project; which is one of the biggest road projects currently undertaken by the RTA aimed at linking the Western Parallel Road with the Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed and First Al Khail Road,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of RTA.
The project encompasses the construction of 22 viaducts of precast concrete units forming a corridor spanning 4250 meters comprising two lanes in each direction together with a concrete ramp extending 120 meters added to serve the traffic outbound to Al Maktoum Bridge.
“The flyover is really helpful as I can avoid the traffic at the Trade Centre roundabout and on the 2nd Zabeel Street, particularly during the rush hour, when the roundabout is clogged,” said Mohammad Kablawi, who works in the financial centre area and uses the First Al Khail road regularly.
As part of the parallel roads project, work on Umm Suqeim road is currently in the final stage, which will turn the route into an express way.
Work is also up and running in Phase III at Jumeirah Lakes Towers where completion rate has exceeded 80 per cent, and construction works in the project, which costs Dh 450 million, are set for full completion by the end of this year.
This year, RTA also completed the expansion of Al Khail Road, which is also part of the Parallel Roads project.
