Sharjah: A 30-year-old motorcyclist died in a collision on Tuesday morning on the Al Dhaid-Al Weishah Road.

An official at Sharjah Police’s Traffic and Patrols Department said the accident was caused by speeding and reckless driving, the Bangladeshi man, identified as Y.S., died instantly.

The police operations room received a call about the incident at 10.30am. Police said the motorcyclist had collided with a car driven by an Emirati youth, the bike flipped over several times then burst into flames.

The accident took place while the motorcyclist was trying to overtake. The man’s body was taken to Al Dhaid Hospital while the Emirati youth was admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

“We urge those driving motorcycles to adhere to the speed limit and avoid driving recklessly, as they are not only endangering their lives but the lives of others as well,” said the police official.

He added that bikers should take safety precautions, which include wearing helmets and fluorescent jackets.
