Abu Dhabi: Wholesale outlets and butcheries topped the list of food safety violators in Abu Dhabi emirate last month, according to routine inspections by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA).
The authority ordered the closure of two shops — one wholesale and one retailer — for violating the food safety laws.
It also dealt with six suspected food poisoning cases.
The authority's report did not give the details of the closure and food poisoning cases, and the officials were not available for further details or comments.
Out of the 50 food safety violations found by the inspectors in wholesale and retail outlets, 41 were in whole sale shops and nine in retail outlets, said the report. The inspectors made 1899 visits and issued 648 warnings also to the whole sale and retail outlets.
It received 70 complaints from the public, in which 46 were against wholesale shops and 24 against retail shops.
Eight violations were found in butchers, out of the 12 violations in a separate category of restaurants and butchers. Inspectors made 3252 visits in this category of outlets, issued 231 warnings and confiscated and destroyed 3.352 tones of low quality food.
The inspectors confiscated and destroyed three tonnes of low-quality meat from butchers.
After butchers, restaurants topped the list with three violations. Inspectors made 415 visits, issued 172 warnings to restaurants and destroyed 352 kilogrammes of food.
Only one violation was found in eateries in educational institutions. No violations were found in factories.
