Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has instructed all practitioners of medical professions not to wear laboratory coats outside the medical institutions and medical schools to avoid transmission of diseases to others at work places or schools, according to the circular issued by Dr Ameen Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry for Public Health Policies and Licensing.

The move comes in line with the strategy of the MoH to further enhance the health services nationwide. It plays a pivotal role in curbing the spread of diseases.

“Recently many practitioners of medical professions and medical students have been observed wearing the lab coats when they leave their work places or universities. This has become a show phenomenon at public places like mosques, marketplaces, TV interviews, conferences and others”. the circular said.

According to studies and research, the lab coats could transmit contagious diseases. The samples show that sleeves and pockets carry contagious germs.

Based on the research, the circular said, many states have banned the medical practitioners and medical students from wearing the lab coats in public places to curb the spread of diseases
