Dubai: The UAE University (UAEU) has been chosen as the Middle East centre for examinations for the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI), one of Europe's oldest medical colleges.

The university will be the second overseas venue to be used for examinations of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. The first was established in Kuala Lumpur in 1996.

The examinations, to take place in UAEU's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, follows an agreement signed between the two leading institutions in 2008.

The Faculty of Occupational Medicine at RCPI is world-renowned which is why the assessments are being held abroad as well as in Dublin.

Test masters

Two examiners from the faculty in Dublin will mark the papers in Al Ain, assisted by examiners from UAEU.

Recently, a confering ceremony took place where the Provost, Professor W. Rory Hume, and the Dean of UAEU's Faculty of Medicine and Health Services, Professor Mohammad Yousuf Hassan Baniyas, were given honorary fellowships by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, RCPI.

Dr John Donohoe, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, said: "We're delighted to be partnering with UAEU where the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is undoubtedly one of the leading medical research centres in the GCC and wider region. "This expertise, combined with the obvious geographic benefit of the UAE, makes UAEU the ideal centre for our Middle East examinations. We are honoured to be partnering with this distinguished body."
