Smaller firms must buy individual health cover
The Health Authority-Abu Dhabi yesterday announced that employers with less than 11 staff members must buy individual health insurance cover for each employee as well as their families.
Abu Dhabi: The Health Authority-Abu Dhabi yesterday announced that employers with less than 11 staff members must buy individual health insurance cover for each employee as well as their families.
The family members covered include the spouse and three children below 18 years of age. It said group coverage for such a small number of employees will not be allowed.
An official from the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HA-AD) stressed that these companies must obtain insurance policies from companies which it has authorised.
The insurance companies include the National Health Insurance Company - Daman; Arab Orient Insurance Company; Ras Al Khaimah National Insurance Company; Alliance Insurance Company; Al Sagr National Insurance Company; Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company; Emirates Insurance Company, and Oman Insurance Company.
"The insurance companies have the right to request medical reports for all customers applying for individual policies and the employer must submit the reports to the insurer.
"Employees earning less than Dh3,000 per month with housing, or Dh4,000 without housing, must be covered by Basic Product Policies, while employees earning Dh4,000 must be covered by Enhanced Product Policies," confirmed Dr Finn Goldner, Head of Health System Financing at HA-AD.
HA-AD has begun inspections of employers, insurers and providers.
