Dubai: The Pink Caravan breast cancer awareness initiative and Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) will be launching a drive called ‘Feel for the signs’ with the aim of encouraging more women to get themselves checked in order to enable early detection and treatment.

The drive, which is in support of the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will be implemented in DTC Pink Taxis across the emirate. The vehicles will be designed for exclusive use by women.

“We are making use of new and innovative methods to reach out to women...[and] make them stop for a second and think about the threat and the very real possibility of developing breast cancer,” said Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, Secretary General for Friends of Cancer Patients charitable society (FoCP) and Head of the Pink Caravan’s Medical and Awareness committee.

The taxis will bring the idea to life through seat belts, which will be fixed with an embedded ball or “lump” placed to sit exactly on the passenger’s chest when the seat belt is worn. It will have a message saying ‘Breast cancer is not always this easy to find. Feel for the signs. Early detection is your protection’.
