Dubai: “Expediting new developments and raising the bar on quality are the twin areas that the UAE government is focused upon when it comes to health care,” said the Minister of Health, Abdul Rahman Mohammad Al Owais. He was inaugurating a new 100-bed super speciality hospital by Aster DM Healthcare at Mankhool, Dubai.

“The UAE government envisions significant achievements and progress in the health-care sector in order to alleviate the suffering of residents and to contribute to a healthier society,” he said welcoming public-private partnership to strengthen the hands of all stakeholders in this sector.

Centrally located on Mankhool Street in Bur Dubai, the new hospital will offer round-the-clock emergency services, daycare surgical services, 24-hour pharmacy, full-fledged diagnosic services with advanced radiology, imaging and laboratory services. The facility has cutting-edge equipment including 1.5 Tesla MRI, 16-slice Spiral CT Scanner and 4D ultra-sound scanner and digital X-rays, among others, Alisha Moopen, Director of Aster DM Healthcare, said.

Commenting on his group’s rapid expansion to support the Dubai Government’s Medical Tourism initiative, Dr Azad Moopen, Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare, said: “The approximate population of one billion people in the Middle East and North Africa region can be attracted here for medical tourism. We have many people from across the Mena region coming in to our orthopaedic departments for hip/knee replacement surgeries, among other procedures such as bariatric surgery for weight loss. If the health tourism is more focused, people from other parts of the world will make Dubai a destination for medical tourism. Having multiple departments in one hospital can boost medical tourism in many ways.”

Disclosing the expansion plans of his group in the next two years, he added: “Currently there are two Aster hospitals and two Medcare hospitals. Additionally, one Medcare Hospital is coming up on Shaikh Zayed Road in the next one year and one Aster hospital will be up and running in Al Ghusais by the end of 2016.”
