Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Health has retrieved Rotarix vaccine and suspended its use temporarily.
The vaccine which is used for infants under 12 months of age has been suspended as it contains the pvc virus type 1, which has unknown side effects.
Dr. Amin Al Amiri, CEO for Medical Practice and Licensee at the Ministry of Health said that the move followed a warning by the US Food and Drug Administration calling for suspending the use of the vaccine until further investigations are complete.
He also added that the use of the vaccine is limited, and no adverse affects have be shown till now. Al Amiri also added that the dangers of the vaccine’s usage is being investigated currently by the ministry of health.
The ministry of health issued a circular suspending the use of the vaccine and to cease importing and selling it.
The circular also ordered the manufacturing company to retrieve the vaccine from UAE markets and hospitals.
