Ras Al Khaimah: The Ministry of Health announced Thursday evening the deportation of a Pakistani barber after HIV tests conducted on him came out positive.

Many of his customers had started visiting hospitals and clinics to undergo tests to ensure that they had not been infected.

Dr. Amin Al Amiri, the Director of the Medical Practices and Licensing Department at the Ministry of Health confirmed his deportation from the UAE.

Dr. Al Amiri who is the spokesman of the ministry said that the barber entered the UAE in 2005 when his medical record showed that he was clear and was granted the UAE residency.

Last January, the barber went on leave and returned sometime this month. When he had to renew his residency, the medical test proved that he was HIV positive.

Dr Al Amiri said that the Emirati sponsor has abandoned the barber once he heard that his employee was infected, even before the authorities got involved in the case.

The Ministry of Health has informed the clients of the barber that there was no chance of them being infected with HIV as the barber was deported quickly enough.

The barber identified as A.F lived in the area of Ghaleelah, north of Ras Al Khaimah for the past five years and that he over half a decade, had established a regular clientele.
