Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) has announced the launch of two health awareness campaigns for Ramadan.

The ‘My Medication during Ramadan’ and ‘A Healthy Ramadan’ campaigns are focused on educating the public about the need to monitor their health and regulate their medication intake during Ramadan, to ensure a healthy fasting.

“The purpose of the SEHA campaigns during Ramadan is to educate the public about how to spend this holy month of Ramadan in good health and without complications, particularly for patients who suffer from certain diseases that need attention and care during the period of fasting,” said Khalifa Al Ketbi, Deputy Chief of Operations Division at SEHA.

‘My Medication During Ramadan’ campaign is aimed at providing tips and recommendations on how and when to take medications to ensure continued health and avoid complications that may result from not taking medications during the feasting period.

The campaign highlights major health topics and offers guidelines on the most appropriate fasting methods for diabetic patients, individuals with heart disease, asthma, high blood pressure, epilepsy and those who suffer from digestion disorders, along with pregnant and breast-feeding women as well as children.

Awareness brochures will be distributed throughout SEHA hospitals and films will be shown in waiting rooms.

AL Kebti noted that SEHA staff will also respond to customer inquires they receive through hotlines, email and direct interviews.

Social networks will allocate spaces to access health professionals. In addition, recreational and educational activities, gifts distribution and organization of competitions, will take place to maintain public interest.

“Pages on various social networking sites will be allocated to identify and educate the public and to directly answer their questions on how to take medication in Ramadan. This account (@dawaii_seha) on Twitter was dedicated to respond to inquiries from patients during the holy month of Ramadan,” he explained.

The second campaign, ‘A Healthy Ramadan’, revolves around a cartoon character known as ‘Saeed’, who interacts with the public through a number of channels, including print, radio and television spots, where he provided health advice during the holy month.

This is the second consecutive year for launching this campaign. Al Ketbi pointed out that the number of beneficiaries of the campaign ‘My Medication during Ramadan’ in the previous year reached 7,500 in all hospitals of SEHA, in addition to about 80 pharmacies.
