Food authority pleased with fewer violations
Food inspectors in Abu Dhabi were delighted to find just 12 minor violations in over 1,266 visits during the first ten days of Ramadan, a senior official told Gulf News yesterday.

Abu Dhabi: Food inspectors in Abu Dhabi were delighted to find just 12 minor violations in over 1,266 visits during the first ten days of Ramadan, a senior official told Gulf News yesterday.
"We are happy that there were no serious violations& it means we didn't need to close down any outlets during Ramadan so far," Mohammad Jalal Al Reyaysa, head of the Information and Communication Department at Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (Adfca) said.
The inspectors issued 359 warnings to rectify minor mistakes found at the outlets, he said.
Some of the outlets like bakeries, coffee shops, groceries and small shops did not even commit minor violations, according to the official.
The lowest number of minor violations - just one - was found at vegetable and fruit shops, he revealed.
Hypermarkets and supermarkets committed just two violations only. The highest number of minor violations - four - was found at restaurants.
The inspectors at the Special Food Section, which deals with butcheries, meat stalls, fish shops, and hotels, found four minor violations.
The official praised the cooperation of the residents who reported malpractices in the food sector to Adfca by calling up the Abu Dhabi government toll free number 800555.
The residents helped the inspectors to take timely action against violators, he said. He asked residents to continue such cooperation to ensure food safety.
Meanwhile, Adfca has requested the public to report the sale of food items outside the shops or on the streets.
