Food agency warns care-givers

The Australian food standards agency is warning care-givers not to feed infant formula manufactured in China to infants.

Dubai: The Australian food standards agency is warning care-givers not to feed infant formula manufactured in China to infants.

Although the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service has confirmed that no dairy imports from China have been received by the territory this year, the advice relates to consumers bringing the milk products back from China themselves.

A Food Safety Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) agency statement reads: "Infant formula products in Australia are produced under strict standards to ensure their safety and nutritional value. Care-givers are advised not to feed infant formula manufactured in China to infants, in the case that these products have been brought into Australia directly by consumers [e.g. purchased when travelling and brought back for personal use]."

FSANZ is also carrying out precautionary testing on some confectionary that may contain small amounts of dairy ingredients.
