Abu Dhabi: Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the UAE General Women's Union and honorary president of the National Committee to Combat Breast Cancer, yesterday held a lunch banquet in honour of US First Lady Laura Bush.

They discussed issues of development of women in the UAE and the UAE-US partnership in the effort to combat breast cancer.

Forecast: More than 25m will fall victim to disease
More than 25 million women worldwide will be diagnosed with breast cancer over the next 25 years. Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related deaths among women, and the numbers are on the rise.
Ten million women could die of breast cancer without cure. Studies reveal that Arab women, including those in the UAE, tend to develop breast cancer at least a decade earlier than women in Western countries. These facts have urged governments to invest in education and awareness in breast health.
