Electrical waves 'pose no danger' in Dubai
Electromagnetic field waves around power lines and power stations might endanger the health of people living nearby, but Dubai Municipality has taken all necessary steps to ensure people stay safe.

Dubai: Electromagnetic field waves around power lines and power stations might endanger the health of people living nearby, but Dubai Municipality has taken all necessary steps to ensure people stay safe.
The negative health effects of EMF waves and solutions to the problem were discussed at a seminar last Thursday, the first event of its kind to focus on the issue organised by the municipality.
The seminar was held in cooperation with Step Ahead Electric Ware Trading, which is involved locally with EMF measurements. EMF waves are given off by high-voltage electric transmission lines and many studies have been conducted to investigate their possible carcinogenic effects.
Dr Adel Hajj from Cedars Jebel Ali International Hospital discussed possible health risks and ongoing research by medical authorities, who are addressing different aspects of public concern in this field.
The seminar was opened by Eng Redha Hassan Salman, Head of the Environmental Protection and Safety Section in the Environment Department of Dubai Municipality.
Salman said the municipality's efforts in the EMF area include effective infrastructure planning and careful studying of the locations of high-voltage pylons. He said there are buffer zones between EMF sources, and sensitive areas like schools, hospitals and kindergartens are given special consideration.
Various officials from local UAE authorities such as the electricity company, mobile operators, Emirates Environmental Group and university representatives attended.
