Egypt hospital wins UAE's health prize
The UAE Health Foundation Prize has been awarded to the Children's Cancer Hospital in Egypt this year.
Geneva: The UAE Health Foundation Prize has been awarded to the Children's Cancer Hospital in Egypt this year.
The prize was handed over on Friday, at the UN European Headquarters, by Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, Minister of Health, in an international health award ceremony, when the World Health Assembly (WHA), decision-making body of the World Health Organisation (WHO), wrapped up its 60th session.
Attending the ceremony was Margaret Chan, director-general of the WHO, and Leslie Ramsammy, head of the WHA.
Al Qutami greeted the attendants and participants , stressing that the UAE Health Foundation Prize was the result of the UAE's belief and that of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in backing the good work of the WHO.
He said the UAE Ministry of Health has developed a promising, comprehensive future strategy, which entails programmes to combat contagious and chronic diseases.
Al Qutami noted that awarding the Children's Cancer Hospital this year stems from the belief in the hospital's good work.
He said the generous donation by Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, chairperson of the General Women's Union, was a major element in developing the hospital's work.
The Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan's UAE Health Foundation prize was launched in 1993, as a kind gesture of the late Shaikh Zayed himself to boost the work and activities of health establishments all around the world.
