Dubai: Medical practitioners found guilty of any malpractice will be penalised by Dubai Health Authority’s (DHA’s) newly formed medical committee in accordance with DHA’s executive council resolution No 32 of 2012.

The breadth and depth of penalties to be handed down by the committee were not elaborated on by DHA in its statement on Sunday.

The health authority also did not comment as to whether the powers of the new committee would extend to issuing fines or revoking medical licences of professionals working in Dubai.

Announcing the formation of an eight-member Medical Practices Committee, Jasem Mohammad Al Awadi, DHA’s Acting Director-General, said that the new DHA body will monitor the working of all non-governmental health facilities and professionals in Dubai, including all free zones but excluding Dubai Healthcare City Authority.

The committee, chaired by Dr Mamoun Al Marzouqi, aims to ensure a high quality of health services is provided to the population of Dubai and that all facilities and professionals follow the necessary protocols and regulations to achieve this.

The committee shall undertake several tasks including review of medical professional practising rules, conditions of health-care practitioners and facilities in Dubai, according to the DHA spokesperson.

Members of the committee will meet once a month and their membership will be valid for one year, after which the committee will be re-formed.
