Dubai: Initiating a community wellness initiative, ‘My Health, My Pledge’, which has already been supported by 100,000 people worldwide, Aster DM Healthcare recently launched the campaign in the UAE and got numerous residents to take part.

Prominent among the list of well-known people to take the pledge was Eisa Al Maidour, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

“I am happy to be part of this initiative, which focuses on promoting good health in society. Small changes in our lifestyle can go a long way for us in remaining healthy. I sincerely hope that a large number of UAE residents will take this pledge,” he said.

Al Maidour listed the five routes to good health that he intends to follow: “My pledge is to live healthily by eating right, exercising actively, sleeping appropriately, de-stressing by ensuring proper rest, and to keep my mind active by learning and seeking knowledge. Our health is our wealth and it is very important that we take proactive rather than reactive measures for a more positive tomorrow for ourselves and our city,” he added.

The campaign is expected to set a new world record for the maximum number of health pledges taken by the public.

Dr Azad Moopen, Chairman and Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare, said: “The campaign encourages people to make a promise with a small pledge towards a healthier lifestyle, which will go a long way in safeguarding their health if they develop it into an ongoing habit. We want people to take ownership of their own well-being through these official pledges where they announce their intention to work towards this actively by inculcating this into their routine life. Together, let us take a giant leap towards creating a more aware, conscious and healthier community.”

The programme has already been endorsed by prominent personalities and celebrities. As part of the programme, pledges have been made by TP Seetharam, the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Grace Relucio-Princesa, the Philippines Ambassador to the UAE, Edward Hobart, UK Consul General to Dubai and Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Vice-Chairman of DP World.

Other celebrities worldwide to take the pledge are former Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Pakistani cricketers Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Umar Gul, Umar Akmal, Ahmad Shehzad and Suhail Tanvir. The health pledge has also been taken by Bollywood actors such as Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar, Jayaram, Kapil Sharma, Ali Ashgar and Arbaaz Khan, to name a few.
