Dubai: Dinesh Mansukhani, 47, a young businessman from Dubai, suffered from Cardio Vascular Disease that resulted in a bypass four years ago and he considers it a clarion call h. He led a fairly healthy life, but now after the bypass he does not leave anything to chance and regular health check-ups have revealed that he is free from heart disease.

“The bypass helped me avert an impending heart attack and I am grateful I underwent that surgery. I am a very athletic person and used to pay squash. Four years ago I suddenly started feeling breathless and was diagnosed with calcification of my arteries. In other words, calcium had seeped into my arteries and had hardened like stone,” recounts Mansukhani, who suspects his condition started much earlier in his late thirties and manifested at the age of 43.

After the bypass, Mansukhani, who was health-conscious, became extra vigilant about his health, making it a point to do a minimum of 30 minute cardio exercises each day, go for regular health checks and also avoid fried, fatty and processed carbohydrates in his diet. He is thankful that he listened to his heart and went in for a check-up that saved his life.

“My advice to everyone above 30 years of age is to go for a six-monthly medical check up that includes a lipid profile. This will give you an exact idea of your cholesterol levels, blood sugar and other parameters important for heart health. Everyone must go for a 40-minute brisk walk each day and take care to completely avoid oily and fatty food. Good health comes with working up a good sweat and after my bypass surgery, I do not take any chances,” says Mansukhani.
