Computer glitch delays medical tests for visas

Dubai: A computer glitch caused chaos at the Al Baraha Hospital on Wednesday as hundreds of people who came for medical tests had to return after hours of waiting.
Staff at the preventive medicine section at the hospital where blood tests and X-rays are conducted as part of the medical tests for visas said the computers were down from early morning.
"There was a problem in the server and the network was down from eight in the morning. We were told that the problem will be resolved with two hours," said an administrative staff who did not want to be named.
He added that people who were queuing up were asked to wait but until the afternoon the system remained faulty.
People complained they wasted a day, and now have to come back again to complete the tests. Abdul Rahman, a technician, said he came to the centre at eight in the morning and waited until noon in vain.
"They asked us to wait saying that the work will start in an hour. I cannot come another day as I have already taken an off today," he said.
M.A., a public relations officer of a construction firm who brought 20 of their company's employees said they returned after waiting for three and a half hours.
"First the staff at the counter told us the problem will be solved within an hour. But now it is past 12 and there is no sign that the work will get done today," said M.A.
