Dubai : The Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs is looking at collaborating with other special needs centres in the UAE on a wide range of activities.

The centre's director, Esphana Al Katib, said, "We are looking at collaborating with other centres for future events, professional activities, research, pooling of resources and even fund-raising." Speaking on the sidelines of the third annual sports meet for Down's Syndrome children to mark World Down's Syndrome Day on March 21, Esphana said such sports events had shown the way for successful collaboration as it brought children from different schools together on a common platform.

Organised by the Down's Interest Group of Al Noor, the event had around 120 children from six different schools participating in a series of sports events. Among the schools present were the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre, Dubai; Special Care Centre and Future Centre for Special Needs, Abu Dhabi; Awladouna Centre, Sharjah and Hope Centre Children with Special Needs, Al Ain.

The spirit of competition ran high. But though Al Noor, with 57 participating students, emerged as the overall winner, the hosts chose to present the trophy to the Future Centre of Abu Dhabi, in second place.
