Abu Dhabi: A sports centre that was opened on the Corniche in October as an initiative of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is drawing large groups of people.

The centre, called Malaib, allows residents to undertake team sports like football, volleyball, basketball, tennis and badminton in an indoor environment, which means that residents’ plans need not be affected due to sudden changes in weather. Fees range from Dh60 an hour for table games, and up to Dh150 an hour for football and basketball courts.

“We see more than 20 reservations a week for our football and basketball courts, which are the most in demand. And we have recently opened up a play area for children, which includes slides, trampolines and kids’ football,” said Sheryl Canto, receptionist at the facility.

The centre, which is managed by event organiser Eye Contact, is open from 8am to 12am daily, and residents are encouraged to book the services beforehand.
