Ras Al Khaimah: A newborn baby boy wrapped in a piece of cloth was discovered in a female prayer room at Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday and is believed to have been abandoned, say police.
No one has come forward as yet to claim the child who was found by women who went to the prayer room and found the baby and a bottle of milk left near him.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr Hamad Ali Al Dabanni, head of Criminal and Investigation Department at the Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the police operation room at Ras Al Khaimah police received a call from the hospital management reporting the incident.
Police said that when found, the baby was only four hours old and the delivery is not believed to have taken place in a hospital, Al Dabanni said.
The baby was kept in Saqr hospital where an official from the hospital told Gulf News that the “baby is in good health and is being kept in the hospital for now”.
Al Dabanni said the baby will remain hospitalised and provided with the necessary care until the police investigation is completed.
Police are following all leads in the hope that the baby can be reunited with its mother.
