Dubai: A Dubai-based private sector group will build three hospitals in the UAE with a total 270-bed capacity to ensure better access to quality health care, it was announced yesterday.

Aster DM Healthcare announced that two hospitals will be built in Dubai: a 85-bed hospital at Mankhool, Bur Dubai, and a 75-bed specialised mother and child hospital on Shaikh Zayed Road.

The third hospital, a 110-bed Medcare Hospital in Sharjah, is near completion and will open soon, the group’s executives said.

Dr Azad Moopen, chairman and managing director of the Group, said it has about 1,200 beds under construction in India and the GCC states.

A fourth hospital, under the Aster brand, is also being developed in Qatar and scheduled to launch next year.

It is planning to roll out another 25 Aster medical centres and 150 Aster pharmacies across the GCC by the end of next year, the chairman said. The announcement was made on the sidelines of the Arab Health Congress and Exhibition, the largest health-care event in the region. Aster DM Healthcare is the Gold Sponsor of the Congress.

Alisha Moopen, director, corporate strategies of the Group, said the new hospitals scheduled to open in the UAE will meet the growing demand for specialised care.

The health-care group also announced the launch of the first phase of Aster Medcity in Kochi, Kerala, India next month. The 1,100-bed capacity medical city will be a conglomeration of several super-speciality hospitals in one campus. It will be spread over 40 acres of land along a one-kilometre waterfront and is aimed at integrating nature with healing.
