Dubai: A new set of unified guidelines is under way as Dubai shifts to a smart government, a senior official said.

Ahmad Bin Humaidan, Director-General of Dubai Smart Government Department (DSG), has assigned a team dedicated to drafting a set of unified guidelines and policies as the government of Dubai transforms into a smart government to allow the convenient use of smart services.

“In completion of our steps to implement the initiative of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and based on our commitment to the directives of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, for transformation into a smart government, a dedicated team started to conduct research and study global experiences as required to develop five policies, guidelines and criteria for circulation to Dubai government entities with the aim of formulating a unified strategy for transformation into smart government, to achieve the objective set by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad for enabling all government services whose nature allows them to be provided and used via smartphones within 24 months,” Bin Humaidan said.

Bin Humaidan clarified that DSG will ensure the guidelines will be aligned with the policies issued by the UAE Federal Government. The guidelines are important in that they ensure high-quality government services provided through smart platforms.

The first draft of the Smart Services implementation guidelines is scheduled to be ready by the end of this month. The guidelines on its security matters will be drafted on September 30 while the guidelines on smartphone usability, content and user experience will be finished on October 31.

Earlier this month, DSG won the United Nations Public Service Award in recognition of the Dubai government’s dedication in delivering innovative public services.
